Let's Pray

1/9/2021

I want to begin this edition of TAB with a prayer...

God almighty, you are capable of healing all diseases, parting the seas, and raising the dead to life.  We worship you and praise you.  Heavenly Father, we ask now, in the name of Jesus, that you would heal our land.  Our country is in desperate need of you.  Please use your church to point people to the light of Jesus.  God, I also ask that you would heal those who are sick and in pain.  Cradle them now and heal them.  Thank you that you hear us.  Thank you that Jesus healed those who were laid before him and that you still bring healing today.  In the name of your Son, Jesus we pray.  Amen.

Attached to this email is our weekly prayer list.  Please take time to look through and pray for those on the prayer list.  Both Bill Walker and Loren Sheets are recovering from hip fractures.  Pastor Roger's wife, Mary Jo and their son-in-law have tested positive for COVID.  Pastor Roger and their daughter Emily tested negative and are in quarantine.  Please pray that there will be no complications, no further infections and for a speedy recovery.

ATTENTION:  Parkside Women Zoom Discipleship Class titled The Sermon on the Mount.  Begins Tuesday, January 12th at 7:00pm.

This is a 9 session study facilitated by Melissa Predmore and Melanie Annes.
We will "gather" by zoom on Tuesday evenings beginning January 12th, from 7:00pm-8:15 pm.  Below is a brief description of the class.
What does it mean to be a citizen of the kingdom of Heaven? Matthew's gospel opens with three chapters containing Jesus' longest recorded message--a sermon given to His disciples early in His ministry to articulate what the life of a Christ-follow would look like. Both practical and profound, the sermon asks of us the same questions it posed to its original hearers: How should a disciple relate to sin? To others? To the Law? How does a disciple think, speak, and act? What is the nature of true righteousness? Seat yourself on a mountainside to learn at the feet of Jesus.

You can register for this class on our facebook page.  Here is the link:  www.facebook.com/events/712020736392195

Parkside Fellowship Annual Meeting (Celebration).

This year's annual meeting will take place on Saturday, February 27 at 3:00pm.  At this year's meeting you will have the opportunity to vote on new members to the church council.  A nominating committee has been put in place and is actively seeking recommendations to fill these open positions.  The members of the nominating committee are Mark Hester (chairman), Bev Lynam, Mary Stevens and Pastor Doug.  If you know an active member of Parkside Fellowship with outstanding leadership ability, you can nominate them by submitting their name via email to doug.boyd@parksidefellowship.org or there will be submission forms available on Sunday.  All submissions will be due no later than January 18th.

Finally, we are excited to be able to offer in-person services on Sundays at 9:30am.  Please feel free to join us.  No reservations are required and we will continue to follow all necessary COVID guidelines.  Please wear a mask so we can keep everyone safe and healthy!

We value our online church community and will continue to livestream our church service at 9:30am for those who wish to participate.  Also, don't forget to stick around after the service for our "after-church zoom gathering".  We start at 10:45am and the zoom link is below https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84125779768

Hope to see many of you on Sunday!

Pastor Doug

See You Sunday

9/25/2020

As you look out your window and see the rain, you might be saying to yourself, "I wonder if Parkside is still planning to have an outdoor parking lot service this Sunday, September 27th?".  The answer to your question is a big.....YES!!

According to the weather predictions I've looked at, the weather for Sunday should be partly cloudy with a high of 71 degrees, so as of now, we are planning to meet outside this Sunday, September 27th at 9:30am.  We will let you know if anything changes.

I also wanted to let you know that at the end of our service this Sunday, we plan to celebrate Bill Walker's 90th birthday.  Pastor Norm will be sharing some thoughts on Bill's legacy here at Parkside and we will sing, with masks on, "Happy Birthday" to Bill!

After the service, consider joining us in the worship center at 10:45am for our discipleship class taught by Larry Annes.  Here is an excerpt of the class offering:

“Few pastors or Christian writers have dared to approach the subject of how proper eating and an active lifestyle can affect how we serve God. Author Gary Thomas does just that. And he reaches all the way back to the apostle Paul, who wrote that we need to prime our bodies to become, "an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work." – Promo from “Every Body Matters” book that we will utilize our main resource.

Please make plans now to join us for our last outdoor service for the year and our in-person discipleship class.

As with past services, we will provide chairs, bottled water and pop-ups to help with shading.  As a reminder, below is the list of COVID-19 statewide gathering requirements that Parkside will be following:
  • Limit our gathering size to 50 people
  • Arrange our seating so that we maintain at least 6 feet of physical distance between parties that are not in the same family
  • Face masks will be required
  • Parkside will require each attendee to fill-out a health questionaire that will be used for contact tracing, as required by the Oregon Health Authority
  • Hand sanitizer will be available and attendees will be encouraged to use it frequently
  • Parkside will post clear signs listing COVID-19 symptoms and directing those with symptoms to stay home.
As much as we desire to see all of you in-person, please stay home if you have any of the following:
  • A fever of 100.4 or greater
  • A new cough that you cannot attribute to another health condition
  • New respiratory issues that you cannot attribute to another health condition
  • Have been in contact with any suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the last 14 days

While we are excited  to offer this opportunity to gather together as a church family and worship God, we also recognize that there are those who will not be able or do not feel comfortable attending a public gathering.  With this in mind, Sunday's church service will be available via livestream on YouTube beginning at 9:30am.

You can watch the livestream worship service the same way you watch the service every Sunday.  Simply go to our webpage, www.parksidefellowship.org.  Once you are on our home page, scroll down to where you see "SCHEDULE".  You can then click on either the "streaming on youtube" or "streaming on facebook" and you will be automatically directed to the service.

Also, for those of you who are not able to attend the live service, we will still have our regular zoom meeting at 11:00am.

Note:  Please use the following link to join the zoom gathering.  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83826986555

I hope to see many of you this Sunday at 9:30am in our church parking lot!  Also, if you know of someone that does not receive our email, please let them know about this Sunday's opportunity.

Finally,
thank you for being a church that prays!

See you Sunday.

Pastor Doug

Tolerationism

7/25/2020

I want to invite you to join us this Sunday as we continue in our series titled, Seven Letters to Seven Churches.

So far, we've peeked into the life of a church that lost it's first love...Jesus; a church that received nothing but praise from Christ, along with an encouragement to remain faithful, even in the midst of suffering and persecution and a church that was confused about what a faithful church looks like.  This week, we will be looking at the Church in Thyatira.  This was a church known for being tolerant and allowing herself to be strongly influenced by the community that surrounded her.  John’s letter to this tolerant church is found in Revelation 2:18-29.  You might consider taking some time over the next couple of days to read this letter and then join us for our online service this Sunday at 10:00am.

As always, you can access our online service by going to our webpage, www.parksidefellowship.org.  Once you are on our home page, simply scroll down to where you see "SCHEDULE".  You can then click on either the "streaming on youtube" or "streaming on facebook" and you will be automatically directed to the service.

After the service, please join us at 11:00am for our "after-church" zoom gathering.

There are two ways for you to join us on zoom.
  1. Set up a zoom account prior to the meeting.  Open the attachment below and follow the instructions for setting up your zoom account.  We have included step-by-step visuals.  Please allow 10 minutes to set up your account.  Once your account is set-up, simply join us by clicking on the meeting link Sunday at 11:00am.  Here is the link. https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86988116642.
  2. Click on the link below, approximately 5 minutes prior to the meeting and follow the prompts in order to install the application.  Here is the link for you to click on.  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86988116642

Letters to the Church

6/27/2020

Over the past few weeks, I have been reading a book by Francis Chan titled, Letters to the Church.

The book takes a deep dive into the current state of the church and seeks to remind us how powerful, how glorious the church once was...and calls us to be once again the church God intended us to be.

I thought I would share a brief excerpt with you...

"You are part of something much bigger than yourself, something sacred.  Through Jesus' sacrifice you have been joined to His Church.  Because of this, you are not only a part of God's sacred temple but also a part of the heavenly community.

Take some time to read  Revelation 4-5 as it describes the scene in heaven.  This section begins with a majestic picture of God on His throne.  The scene is busy and intense:  the four living creatures are declaring His holiness, the seven spirits of God are blazing, myriads of angels are praising Jesus with loud voices, and the twenty-four elders are flat on their faces while laying crowns before Him.  Then in Revelation 5:8, we finally appear."  (Read it for yourself)

There you are!  Did you see it?  Those are your prayers in the bowl of incense!  Isn't that awesome?  We get to be a part of this unbelievable scene!

What is a tremendous, unspeakable honor may feel insufficient for those who are used to being god of their own blogs and twitter accounts.  It feels insignificant to those who have erected their own shrines on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, filled with beautiful pictures and videos of themselves.

Gathering with the church should lead us to holy ground.  You get to come and worship Someone else, with someone else.  You get to pour out love to Him by serving those around you and considering them more important than yourself.  It's not about you.  And you are glad it's not about you.  Because this is something far greater than you.  It is sacred."

Join us online this Sunday at 10:00am, for a "sacred" gathering of God's church as we worship our Lord and Savior.  Larry Annes will be speaking on our need to keep God in sight and to run into his arms, allowing Him to bring us peace, hope and love, especially during this season of unrest.

As always, you can access our online service by going to our webpage, www.parksidefellowship.org.  Once you are on our home page, simply scroll down to where you see "SCHEDULE".  You can then click on either the "streaming on youtube" or "streaming on facebook" and you will be automatically directed to the service.
