On behalf of the Law family, I want to invite you to attend the Celebration of Life for Jean Law. This special time of remembrance will take place tomorrow, Saturday, June 4th at Parkside Fellowship. The service will begin at 2:00pm.
Please join us for this special time of remembering the life God gave to Jean and the impact he had on all who knew him.
For those who are unable to attend in-person, the service will be available via livestream. The livestream will begin at 2:00pm. Click on the link below to access the service.
There will be a reception in the Fireside Room immediately following the conclusion of the service.
Also, this Sunday at 9:30am, we will finish our short, but powerful "post-card" letter of Jude. As we will learn this week, Jude's purpose went beyond just condemning false teachers. His purpose was also to protect the faithful. In verses 17-23, Jude works to sharpen the discernment of his readers by issuing commands to remember the teachings of the apostles, to keep themselves in the love of God, to have mercy on those who had been deceived by false teachers, and to save those who were being threatened by these false teachers. Finally, Jude prays for his readers, as he concludes with a hope-filled, confidence building doxology of praise to God, through Jesus, whose power will never end.
After the service, we will launch 2 brand-new Sunday School classes. Below are the details for each:
Study #1: Prayer that Moves Heaven
Facilitator: Martha Bailey
Time: Sundays at 10:45am
Study #2: Psalms and Proverbs
Facilitator(s): Mark Hester and Jonella Malinowski
Time: Sundays at 10:45am
See you Sunday,
Paul certainly proved himself a prophet when he wrote: "For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. They will reject the truth and chase after myths." II Timothy 4:3-4
Could Peter, Paul, Jude and others really have lived in the first century? Sounds like society in the first century was simply put on repeat.
Jude 5-16 portrays a staggering honest truth about God and how he deals with those who seek to deceive and manipulate the truths of God's Word for their own pleasure. You might title this Sunday's message: When God Gets Angry. God's anger and judgment are not popular topics to address, especially in today's culture, and if I'm honest with you, teaching these aspects of God's character brings me some anxiety.
So, if no one wants to hear messages taught on God's anger and judgment, and if teaching these topics brings me anxiety...then why do it? The world of Jude's time was filled with false teachers who lead people astray from God's love and God's laws. Sound familiar? Jude's short but powerful letter helps to expose the sobering reality of false teaching, describes several ways for us to be equipped for the fight, and explains how to engage those who have been led astray by deception.
Join us Sunday at 9:30am, as we continue our short, yet eye-opening, journey through the book of Jude.
We will also take a moment in our service to remember and honor the brave men and women who have sacrificed greatly for our country. Take time this weekend to thank God for the freedom we have because of the price that was paid by Jesus on the cross and by those who served on the battlefield so that you and I can live free.
Finally, this week, Martha Bailey will conclude her class on Keeping It Simple, as she leads a discussion on performing simplicity. Thank you Martha for the time and work you have put into helping all of us...keep it simple!
