A Note From Family Promise

3/25/2020

Hello Everyone!

Last time you received an email from us was 25 days ago, announcing we had raised the money we needed to purchase a Day House. Today, we are in a different world. So my question to you is, how are you doing? Do you need anything? We have created an awesome network of compassionate people, so please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything.

Here is a quick update about the house. As I mentioned, we did raise the money. We closed on the house March 4th, which we loved the play on words. Marching “fourth” for the families in our community. Pastor Doug Boyd and Associate Pastor Roger Sharp from Parkside Fellowship met us at the new place and greeted us with some house-warming signs and the ceremonial passing of the keys.

The following Sunday, I was honored to join our board chair, Lois O’Halloran, for service at Westside Church of Christ. We were able to thank Westside for being our generous donor of the $100,000 matching grant.

Now, here we are and I want to update you about what we are doing in this new time of physical distancing. First off, our families and staff are healthy. As far as we know, the churches and partners in our network and their volunteers are well and healthy. We do hope you are too.

We are open and are continuing services for our current guests, our graduates, and taking phone calls of families in need (we do currently have a waitlist). This week we are being hosted at THPRD’s Garden Home Rec Center and volunteers are from the LDS West Stake. We are grateful to all the LDS volunteers who are caring for our families and to THPRD who has extended our reservation until April 15th.

After this week though, we do not have volunteers lined up. After working out all possibilities, I believe the best option for our families and our volunteers in this time of physical distancing is to try to get our families somewhere stationary and arrange for food to be delivered to them. It’s not ideal, since experiencing homelessness is already isolating and this would take them away from our volunteers and staff, which is even more isolating, however I believe that is what’s best for us all right now. We are not sure how we are going to about this just yet, however we have started repairs on the new house and are working out how we can use this space.

Starting today, we are kicking off our Family Promise Coronavirus Emergency Relief Fundraiser. Can you help us amplify our message? Share posts on social media. Tag friends on posts. Forward email announcements to friends who are concerned to what options are available for children and their families during this time of uncertainty.

I will continue to keep you posted as to how we are doing and what our needs are. Please make sure you do the same. We will get through this together.

Sincerely,

Jolene Guptill
Executive Director

COVID-19/Coronavirus Update

3/19/2020

Hi Parkside Fellowship Family

We hope you are doing well and staying healthy as all of us face an unprecedented moment in our lives. Thank you for giving your best effort to help prevent the spread of COVID-19/Coronavirus. Life is very different right now and can be unsettling, but Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever! He is the Cornerstone of our faith.

As we mentioned earlier this week, now more than ever we need each other and want to encourage you to lean into your church family by praying for one another, calling one another, and checking in with each other. As your Pastors, we want to be even more available to you during this time. Our desire is to be available to meet with you, pray with you, or simply call you. Over the next week, you will notice more phone calls, emails, texts, online engagement, etc. Again, if you or someone you know has a need, whether it be prayer or shopping, please let us know and we will make it happen! Below is some important information for you during this new normal:

*The church offices will be closed beginning Monday, March 23rd*
*Pastor Doug (949-838-6981) & Pastor Roger (713-417-5733) are available to you
*Frequently check for email, website, Facebook, and sermon updates online

Additionally, we want to ask that you continue to faithfully give to the ministry of Parkside Fellowship. Even though we are not conducting church services on our campus, our church is still living out the gospel each and every day. Just yesterday, our church was able to provide 4 boxes of food and cleaning supplies to two families from Common Ground Church. With our connections to Family Promise, Compassion Connect, Beaverton High School Community Group, R12 Ministry, First Image, and so many others, Parkside Fellowship continues to be a conduit of ministry blessing. Other than continuing to give financially, another way you can help during this time is to donate non-perishable food items (canned goods, pasta, mac and cheese, cereal, peanut butter, etc.) along with toilet paper, paper towels and cleaning supplies. Please consider picking up some of these items the next time you are out shopping. If you have items like those listed that you wish to donate, simply contact Doug or Roger and we will be happy to come by your house and pick them up. We anticipate benevolence requests will ramp up in the coming weeks, but with your help, we can meet these needs.

Make use of your local post office drop off for sending checks or let us know you have a tithe check and we will come to your home to pick it up.

We will continue to provide sermons and distribute them online. If you need help with how to access the sermons, give us a call and we will do our best to walk you through it.

For Sunday, March 22nd, Pastor Doug will preach at 10am via Facebook Live on the Parkside Fellowship page: www.facebook.com/ParksideFellowship  We will then post the recorded video on Facebook at 11am and post the audio version as usual at www.parksidefellowship.org/sermons

Know that we are praying for you daily. Scripture teaches that prayers are heard by the One who created the universe. He has all power and cares deeply for you. Rest in knowing you are loved.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
II Timothy 1:7

Weekly Devotionals

3/16/2020

Good morning, Parkside!

Pastor Doug and I hope you were able to watch the live feed yesterday as he preached from Genesis. If not, we have posted a link to it below so you can watch at your convenience.

While we are away from the church building, you will begin noticing devotionals being posted weekly. The devotionals align with "The Cross: 10 Studies For The Easter Season" by Christianity Today.

For the week of March 16-22, please read: ROMANS 3 & ROMANS 12.

As we spend time away from the church building, let's challenge ourselves to find ways to draw closer to each other as a body of believers.

IDEAS:
  • Send a random text of encouragement to someone
  • Call a friend or family member
  • Offer to pickup groceries for an elderly neighbor
  • Create a personal prayer list
  • Volunteer your time
  • Read & share your thoughts online

Pray for me and Doug as we look for ways to stay connected to you.

Blessings,

Roger Sharp

Caronavirus Update

3/13/2020

To:  Parkside Fellowship Family
From:  Pastor Doug, Pastor Roger, Parkside Fellowship Church Council

Like many churches in our area and across the nation, Parkside Fellowship will not have services this Sunday, March 15.  Because of the public health risk from the coronavirus, we are canceling all church services through March 29.

While our congregation falls beneath the 250-person threshold public health officials have set for public gatherings, we feel it is wise to stay home for this reason.  The majority of our congregation is at elevated risk from the virus because of age and health.  State and local officials advise against gatherings that would include 10 or more people at elevated-risk, defined as those older than 60 or who have underlying health conditions.

Members are highly encouraged to express your faith in care for one another and neighbors in this season.  Pray for one another, call one another, check in with each other.  If you want, you can organize small gatherings of people who live near you.

To help you worship, Parkside will do these things during the quarantine period.

1.  Each week we will email you a prayer and worship guide that you can use.  Feel free to adjust or create your own.

2.  We will provide sermons and distribute them online. For Sunday, March 15th, Pastor Doug will preach at 10am via Facebook Live on the Parkside Fellowship page: www.facebook.com/ParksideFellowship. We will then post the recorded video on Facebook at 11am and post the audio version as usual at www.parksidefellowship.org/sermons

Please be in prayer for our church, community, state and nation in this difficult time. God works miracles in times like these.

Should you need pastoral care during this time, Pastor Doug and Pastor Roger are available to meet you at the church or in your home. We want to care for you during this season.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
 1 Timothy 2:7 NLT

Parkside Annual Meeting

3/2/2020

Hi Parkside Family.

I want to thank all of those who attended our church's annual meeting last Saturday and took the time to vote on our 2020 proposed church budget.  The budget passed with 100% approval.....God is good!

In case you missed the meeting, below is a recap of the main talking points:

2019 Highlights:
  • Hired Pastor Roger
  • Replaced sanctuary roof
  • Painted the interior of the sanctuary
  • Upgraded the lighting in the sanctuary
  • Fixed the lighting on the exterior cross
  • Installed new Parkside Fellowship street sign (90% complete)
  • Entered into a Purchase and Sale Agreement to sell the middle (green) house to Family Promise
  • Signed a 3 year lease agreement with Cor Deo Christian Academy
  • Refinance of loan with NWBF
Our council presented a proposed 2020 budget.  (Budget was unanimously approved)

At this meeting, I also shared what I am calling, "Where's Next?" along with, "In the Meantime."  Attached is an abbreviated presentation that I shared at our annual meeting.  After viewing the slideshow, should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach-out to either myself or Roger and we would be happy to answer any questions you might have regarding the direction of Parkside Fellowship for the future.

Please join me in thanking God for what He accomplished through us in 2019 and asking for discernment as we consider the revitalization of Parkside Fellowship.

Finally, I'm excited to announce that Family Promise has raised all of the necessary funds to purchase the middle house.  We hope to close the sale in the next week or so.  The sale of this house will further reduce our loan!  This new loan balance, along with our new lower interest rate, will enable us to pay down the loan at a faster pace than originally anticipated.

FYI.....we Spring Forward this weekend.  Before you go to bed on Saturday night, please remember to set your clock forward 1 hour.

See you Sunday!
